Abstract
From the perspective of local participation, the present research aimed at analyzing the effects of rural development on crime reduction in the rural areas of Jam Abrood rural district, Damavand province, Iran. This is a theoretical and applied research using descriptive-analytical methods. Library and field methods were used to gather data. The statistical population included households in the rural areas, and, based on Cochran's formula, 310 questionnaires were distributed among them. SPSS statistical tests and Prometheus technique were used to analyze the data. The results in the form of a combination of indicators showed that the significance level was less than 0.05. Also, the averages of economic factor, 2.73, social factor, 3.05, infrastructural factor, 2.53, institutional factor, 2.60, and environmental factor, 3.87, indicated that the studied area was in a good situation in terms of social and environmental factors, and regarding the other factors, especially physical and institutional, it needed more attention. The average of all indicators were also calculated to be 2.93. The results of the Prometheus technique also showed that the villages including Vadan with a net flow of 1, Ochong, 0.84, and Luman and Zan, 0.61, were in better situations. Finally, Pearson correlation coefficient was used to measure the relationship between development and the sense of security in rural areas. The results showed that there was a positive and significant relationship between rural development and the sense of security (crime reduction).
