When adolescents commit crimes, parental responsibility laws in certain legal systems, such as Iran and the State of Michigan in the United States, entail responsibilities for parents. These responsibilities, whether through compensating victims or drawing attention to problematic behaviors, aim to prevent recidivism and enforce justice. However, the actual impact of these laws on adolescent behavior and their effectiveness in preventing future delinquency are subject to debate and scrutiny.

Psychological studies suggest that parental responsibility laws can, in some cases, exacerbate family tensions and contribute to existing inequalities in the justice system, rather than increase accountability and correct adolescent behavior. This review examines the different types of offenses subject to review and the challenges associated with the implementation of these laws. Considering cultural and social differences, the role and extent of parental responsibility in each legal system, especially regarding juvenile offenses, are carefully analyzed and compared. This review seeks to answer questions such as the effectiveness of these laws in preventing recidivism and their impact on parental attitudes toward delinquent behaviors.
