One of the most important issues in various legal and judicial areas is the quality of interpretation and understanding the legislator's opinion of laws and regulations. The multiple, diffuse and sometimes different laws, the complexity of the subjects and the comprehension of the laws, results in numerous and sometimes different interpretations and judgments, Therefore, it is important to interpret legal provisions. One kind of the interpretations of criminal legal texts is “limited interpretation” and also “interpretation in favor of the defendant”. This kind of interpretation is inspired by the jurisprudential principle of “acquittal”. In statutory law, the principle of limited interpretation is known as the result of the legality of crimes. The present paper has been used to investigate the differences between the two interpretations by descriptive and analytical method and concluded that the limited interpretation, although in most cases, is in favor of the defendant, but it is not necessarily the case, and perhaps in instances, the interpretation of the extent is in favor of the defendant. In the event of conflict, “limited interpretation” of criminal law takes precedence over “interpretation in favor of the defendant”.
