One of the topics of interest in criminology is prevention, which as one of the components of the concept of criminal policy can be explained in the two fields of government and public institutions. Despite the familiarity of the word prevention, there is less research history in the field of twelve-step public institutions. Their creation in Iran dates back twenty-five years (and eighty years in the world) and they were initially active in the field of drug addiction and subsequently, with their growth over time, they have become active in other subjects as well. Their goal is to raise the point of self-reliance and reduce the feeling of being a victim. Many criminological concepts such as criminal self-destruction, the core of the criminal personality, etc. are being explained in them in simple language and with certain moral principles. In the current situation, many people have attracted the attention of various types of addiction for the purpose of recovery; as they are also mentioned in recent legislation (Prevention Law).
